Sanctuary

Had a lovely brunch at home today and felt well rested, so I decided to try to clean up my office sanctuary a bit, as it’s been getting messy with all the recent artwork.

I love this little corner of the world - it’s my favorite place to hang out in whenever I get a chance and I love being surrounded by all the bright colors in the room

Brian actually agreed to help me put up my favorite mirror that I purchased a few years ago at a consignment shop in Barrington.  I think I want to cover it in silver leaf, but for right now it will have to stay it’s original gold, as I have a million other things that have to come first.  Still, I think it looks pretty good.

And I finally hung up the artwork I commissioned from Heather Mattingly in New Orleans from her company Fleur Debris…get it?  It’s made of discarded bits from around the city after Katrina, and the border is wood from houses that were destroyed in the flood.  I fell in love with her work when I met her in NOLA in 2008 working at an event in the Superdome….it’s hanging above all the wrapping paper in the photo.

And then there’s my inspiration bulletin board that’s on the other side of my computer desk.  For anyone who knows me, my favorite artist right now is Anahata Katkin, who runs the company PapayaArt.  There isn’t a thing she creates that I don’t absolutely love and I own pretty much everything she sells in one form or another.  I love to look at this board when I create my own work - it’s all about color.

So this is my sanctuary.  Everyone knows that this is the first place I retreat to after a long day of work and on the weekends you can find me here amongst my paints, pastels, papers and glitter.  I’m so grateful that I have a place that I consider a reflection of me - where I can create to my heart’s content.  I would wish that kind of a space for everyone.
